Terms used across the JARVIS project and this site, in plain language.
- Advanced Systems
- A set of parallel development branches started on 22 September 2026 (spatial engineering workspace, CAD operations, browser frames and shadow roots, capability discovery, agents). Not merged into the production branch. More
- ApprovalRegistry
- The component that holds owner approvals. Approvals are bound to one action, one object and a short expiry, and cannot be replayed. It is consulted inside the policy decision. More
- Barge-in
- Interrupting JARVIS while it is speaking. Speech stops within a 120 ms budget, and only what the owner actually heard is kept in context. More
- C013
- The identifier of the voice candidate the owner selected as JARVIS’s speaking voice. Its technical qualification is still pending. More
- Capability
- One thing JARVIS can do, registered in its capability ledger with a state, evidence and tests. More
- Census
- A dated reading of every capability’s state in the registry. More
- Cognition lane
- The path for conversation and reasoning, as opposed to the reflex lane (instant local answers) and the mission lane (long work). More
- E-Stop
- The emergency stop. It is checked first and at every layer, cannot be overridden by an approval, and survives restarts. More
- Evidence type
- Where a number or claim came from: measured, observed, tested, calculated, simulated, estimated and so on. More
- Failure Atlas
- An Advanced Systems component that groups diagnosed failures into patterns, marked as inferred rather than verified. More
- Hosted cognition (Path-1)
- The current production arrangement: JARVIS’s reasoning uses a hosted language model, while policy, approvals, memory and the E-Stop stay local. More
- JARVIS-LM
- The local language model being trained to replace hosted cognition. No candidate has passed its gates yet. More
- LIVE
- A capability whose real code path passed a bounded probe on a booted JARVIS within the last 24 hours, with evidence on disk. More
- Mission
- Long-running work persisted step by step, so it can pause, resume and be compensated if it fails. More
- ONE HUD
- The single on-screen operating surface for JARVIS. Every value it shows carries a source and an observation time. More
- PolicyEngine
- The fail-closed decision point every effect passes through. Any unexpected error becomes a denial. More
- Proposal
- What a model produces when it wants something done. It carries no authority; the runtime decides. More
- Receipt
- The record of an action’s outcome after the world was read back: verified, rejected, unverified or failed. More
- Spatial engineering workspace
- An Advanced Systems 3D scene bound to project revisions, with STEP, STL, OBJ and 3MF support, rendered in the HUD. More
- Truth ladder
- The eight rungs from concept to release-qualified that every claim on this site is placed on. More
- UIA
- Windows UI Automation, the accessibility interface JARVIS prefers over simulated mouse clicks. More
